Radisson Collection Hotel, Royal Mile Edinburgh

The top-floor Premier Collection room had a lovely castle view, and the bed was big and really comfortable. Parking was easy and very reasonable for a city. We enjoyed our three nights, and the staff were friendly, but a few things missed the mark for a five-star hotel. There was nowhere to hang coats in the spacious room, and the fridge didn't work. Reception said it wasn't really a fridge. Breakfast had a good choice, though the bacon was fatty and undercooked. On our last morning, a group of around 70 guests arrived and the food ran out. When I asked a waiter for some items, he said he was busy dealing with the juice area. I thought replenishing the food and helping guests would have been more useful. At checkout, nobody asked how our stay had been.

We got married at the hotel, and it made for a lovely weekend in Edinburgh. We were given a complimentary suite upgrade because our ceremony was there. The team were fantastic from arrival through checkout, and the front of house manager arranged pressing for my wedding dress at short notice without any fuss. All the thoughtful little touches meant a lot. It’s also a handy base, with the castle, art gallery, Old Town and Christmas markets a short walk away. Loved our stay.

The room was quiet, comfortable and full of quirky, fun touches, with a giant bed that felt wonderful after long days walking around Edinburgh. I loved the huge shower too, decadent and soothing. From the front-facing room, the old building across the street made a great contrast with the hotel's modern style. The breakfast buffet had plenty of tasty choices, even for picky eaters, and the staff seemed keen to make everyone happy. Reception were especially gracious and patient, setting a lovely tone from the moment I walked into this modern oasis. The neighborhood has its own quirky feel, and Edinburgh Castle is just around the corner, an easy walk. Highly recommend the hotel and its team.

We'd happily return. The rooms were tidy and very clean, the shower was great, and the chairs were comfortable. The beds were cosy, though a little firmer than we prefer. We also appreciated the anniversary card and dessert left in our room as a surprise, and found the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast offers a continental buffet and a cooked option. Both were tasty and good value, especially if you pay ahead rather than on the day. We ate in the restaurant one evening too and enjoyed the food, but the portions didn't feel worth the price. There are lots of good places nearby where you can eat just as well for better value. Most rooms also have great views.
