The Lairg Hotel

The breakfast buffet was so filling I could barely leave the table. My dad and I stayed for two nights in January 2018 and enjoyed it immensely. The manager looked after us well, and my room was huge, with a super-king-size bed. It was spotless too. We had tea and coffee, a TV, a shower for two, towels, soap, shampoo, and a hairdryer.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the welcome was warmer than I expected after booking at the last minute for such a low price. I’d only gone in expecting a junior or single room. My main gripe was that the shower wouldn’t get warm enough on the first evening, though it was fine the next morning. The toilet lid also wasn’t fixed down and came off when opened. Everything else was great.

The welcome was warm, breakfast was good, and the room was clean with a comfy bed. But the damp smell, torn curtains, and no air conditioning let it down. The bathroom was awkward to get in and out of, with a sink too large for the tight space. The wardrobe handle was loose and came off in my hand, and someone was using a post-it to keep the bathroom door open and shut across the gap. It could easily have been a four if those little things were sorted.

We had a huge family room with lots of space, clean and nicely furnished. Breakfast had what we needed, either cooked to order or self-serve toast and continental items. There isn’t a proper reception at The Lairg, just a small table, but check-in was easy and the staff were friendly. The hotel was easy to reach from the airport: take the TRAM, then it’s only a few minutes from Haymarket. The street is packed with hotels, funny enough.
