The Residence - NO 8

Great location and the room was clean, fine as a place to sleep. Noise from the bar wasn't an issue. My one complaint is that the pipes in the walls would randomly bang and vibrate. I told the manager, who said it was a 300 year old building. They need to fit an anti-hammer accumulator.

The room was small, but it suited what we needed, and we got a good price. We arrived early and asked if they could clean our room first, and they did. The location is fantastic. I didn’t hear any street noise, despite what some other reviews said, though that might depend on the room or when you visit. The bathroom is very tight, so anyone particularly tall or large may struggle. Google Maps can be a bit confused because the place is under a bridge, so watch out for that. I’d stay here again.

We slept really well, and the bed was very comfortable. The room was clean, and the instructions for collecting the keys were clear and simple. The team were quick to respond, and even let us check in early. The location is amazing, right in the centre. My wife did hear people leaving the club downstairs late at night, but I slept like a baby. It’s a bit expensive, though everything in Edinburgh seemed to be.

Being within walking distance of the castle was a real plus, and we liked the location. But for what we paid, I expected a cleaner room. I’m not fussy, I go to festivals and don’t mind when my feet get filthy, but this place needed serious care. There was dirt and sawdust around the room. The bathroom was so cramped I couldn’t sit facing forward on the toilet. For that price, I expected better.
