The location was especially handy, with a breathtaking view and an airport bus stop just a two-minute walk away. The hotel’s standard exceeded what we expected, and the receptionist was lovely. The decor in our room and throughout the hotel was fabulous, and everything was spotless. The thoughtful touches made a difference: a dental kit, hair straightener, slippers wrapped with the bathrobe, bottled water in glass jars, and chocolates waiting for us. It made the trip feel magical, and it’s by far the best hotel I’ve stayed in for customer experience. My only regret is not booking a longer stay.

The staff were all lovely and easy to talk to. We were on the top floor, and the two flights of stairs could be tough if you have knee or back problems. Inside, the beds and pillows were really comfortable, and it was quiet outside at night. We liked having our own apartment with daily servicing, plus a well-stocked kitchen and minibar. There was a good choice of items, and milk was provided each day for tea and coffee.

We found the rooms clean and comfortable, and the staff were so friendly. Breakfast at The Huxley was fantastic. The location worked really well too: about five minutes on foot from the tram stop, then a lovely 15-minute walk past the castle to the old town.

The castle view from our little suite was lovely, and the room itself felt lavish. We came for the Christmas Market but ended up finding loads more to enjoy in Edinburgh. The hotel is central, with wonderful staff, and Dean village is a pretty, short walk away. We had a great afternoon pie and pint at the Bow Bar, and may have tried a cheeky whiskey from their huge collection. Dinner at the Witchery had a fabulous atmosphere and staff, and the food was delicious, though we liked the cocktails and wine a bit less. The underground Pander and Sons cocktail lounge was amazing, as was Hey Palu. Both had great drinks and staff.

Even though The Rutland is so central, our room stayed quiet and I slept really well, which is unusual for me away from home. The bed was wonderfully comfortable, and we had gorgeous views of the castle. Breakfast at The Huxley was just a short walk around the corner. Jill gave us a warm welcome and made sure we had everything we needed. Our apartment was spotless and fully equipped, with a stocked kitchen. The ceilings were the highest I've ever seen, yet it still felt cosy. There was even a fireplace you could control with a remote.
