We were already thinking about buying furniture for our own home to match the decor, because our room was so beautiful and picturesque. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, and had plenty of ideas for things to do and see. The location was lovely too, and we had a very nice stay in Edinburgh. My only suggestion is to put a fan in the upstairs rooms. It was very hot during our stay, and that small investment would make the rooms more comfortable.

The decor was very plush and the tasting platter was good, but I’m not sure I’d stay again. Drinks were expensive, with wine at £28.50 a bottle, and there’s no lift, so reaching the top floor means three long, steep flights of stairs. In the bathroom, the floor-mounted tap was loose, the toilet brush holder had rust spots on top, and there was nowhere to put toiletries. The continental breakfast didn’t offer much choice, and the cornflakes were either poor quality or stale. That’s just my view.

Andrew looked after breakfast in the morning and was very attentive. He made sure nothing was too much trouble. The room was luxurious and had everything we needed, including complimentary mini prosecco and bottled water in the minibar. We stayed for a night before a show at the nearby Playhouse, and I’d definitely recommend it.

The wine house had a relaxed setting that felt fun for everyone, and there was a great choice of drinks. The two gentlemen working there, both bearded and one with tattoos, were the friendliest people our group had ever met. Their customer service was excellent, and their recommendations were great.

The staff were very friendly, and my room was clean, with bottled water and prosecco. But the hotel only has four rooms, and since they aren’t numbered, another guest tried to enter mine on two of my five nights. As I was the only guest, breakfast was limited to croissants and a good cappuccino, with nothing else available. I wrote to the manager to complain, but the reply didn’t address it.
