The staff were helpful, but the reception desk was only staffed now and then. I waited 20 minutes to check in and often found nobody there. Rooms are serviced only for stays of six days or more. I had to catch the cleaner for extra coffee and toilet roll because the “top-up” sign on the door was ignored. Breakfast was a box with cereal and similar items, and there's no restaurant. The bedroom itself was fine, but the bathroom needed a proper clean. Mould was appearing on the shower sealant, and the window ledge was dirty enough that I wiped it with toilet tissue. There's no air-conditioning, and the room gets extremely hot in warm weather. I kept the window open, which meant noise in this city centre location. I also had to swap the TV remote twice because it didn't work. I know it's a budget hotel, but I paid over £200 each night and expected better.

We were on the second floor overlooking Rose Street, and there was very little noise. The room was clean, comfortable for our needs, and a good temperature in June. It's well located for Edinburgh's usual attractions. We got there a couple of hours before the 3pm check-in. There's no luggage storage, but the attendant kindly got us into our room early at no extra charge. We were disappointed that WiFi is free for only the first 30 minutes, then you have to buy a package.

For the price, it offers reasonable value and does the job if affordability is your main concern and you're okay with the compromises. The room was okay, but the heater felt too small and didn't warm the space properly. There's no microwave, which is inconvenient for budget travellers who rely on quick meals, and no luggage storage either, which would have been helpful. I didn't feel welcomed when I arrived. Check-in was very strict, and limiting free WiFi to 30 minutes a day feels outdated. The lift was loud and shaky, and made me anxious every time I used it. There's room for improvement.

Travelodge Edinburgh Central Rose Street is handy for Princes Street and the city's many bars and restaurants. The main attractions are an easy walk away, and the rooms are comfortable and affordable. Breakfast isn't included.

One thing to plan for is the lack of luggage storage, especially if you're arriving early or leaving late. We stayed at the Travelodge on Rose Street in Edinburgh and had a very pleasant visit. The room was clean and warm, a welcome thing after exploring the city, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. They really made an effort to keep us comfortable.
