Travelodge Edinburgh Learmonth

For the price, we got a comfortable room in a lovely old house. It was clean and everything was in good condition, though you may hear the neighbours, which seems normal in an older building. Staff were really friendly, and we never waited more than five minutes to speak to someone. One thing to watch: the housekeeping team tried to enter despite the “do not disturb” sign, so lock the door if you don’t want anyone coming in.

It’s outside the city centre, but the area is quiet and transport runs right past the hotel every few minutes. My room was a large family room being used for one person, with a window and a view. The bed was big and comfortable. Breakfast was mostly continental, with butter croissants and cereal as other options. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The area was quiet at night, and finding a parking spot at the weekend wasn’t too hard. Parking was free then, too. The staff were friendly and helpful. It’s a handy location, neither right in the costly centre nor far away, with easy public transport into town. If you’re not in a hurry, walking in is pleasant. My room was big and spacious, though the toilet was on the small side.

The rooms were very basic, with nowhere for a suitcase, no wardrobe or bedside table, and no bathroom shelf or toothbrush holder, so everything ended up on the floor. One staff member even said they were “in desperate need of some furniture!” The English breakfast was average at best. On the plus side, the location is handy for the city centre, railway station and airport. Several buses get you to the centre in five stops, and the hotel sits on a quiet residential terrace. Our room at the back was peaceful. The bed was very comfortable, the flatscreen TV was decent, and staff were friendly and helpful.
