At the Wheatsheaf in Virginia Water, Callum made the visit feel personal. He was friendly and professional, and went out of his way to make sure we were looked after. The whole team was welcoming and attentive. The food was wonderful too: everything we ordered was cooked just right and full of flavour, with a lot of care clearly going into the menu. We'd gladly come back, and highly recommend it.

I stayed overnight while work was being done at home and really enjoyed it. After waking in a lively, refurbished room, I went for an early walk by the lake, then had a full English at the hotel/pub. I used to walk my old Labrador in the park, so it was nice to be back around there. The rooms and food were both lovely. Thank you.

The staff's response was the worst part. There was no apology or real solution until we pushed for a refund, and being told they'd been busy over Easter didn't make up for the meal. At this rate, they won't be busy next Easter. We visited with family on a recommendation and were really disappointed. All four mains were only mildly warm; the chicken burger and onion rings were poorly fried, and the rings were downright inedible. The steak had similar problems, and we got several items refunded. The starter, Korean Chicken strips, was pale, chewy and lukewarm too. We kept hoping the mains would be better, but they weren't. For £24 for two courses, including a burger and chips, this was far too expensive. We could get a better meal at a fast food chain for a fraction of the cost.

We don't stay at the hotel or eat there, but pop in now and then for a drink after walking around the lake. There's a good drinks selection and you can order through the app. The outdoor seating has been extended and updated, including a glass-covered area with heaters. Parking is free for patrons; otherwise it's charged at the main car park's rate. Getting out to the main road can be congested at busy times, depending on the lights. I thought £2 for a pack of crisps was a bit cheeky, but maybe that's the location.
