Killyhevlin Lakeside Hotel & Lodges

We ate really well at the restaurant. The menu wasn't huge, but had good options. We got a burger and shared a few starters and sides because we like trying a bit of everything. The food was excellent, especially the seafood chowder! Our room had a balcony and a great lake view, though the wettest spell of weather I can remember meant we hardly got to use it. Inside, the hotel was clean, warm and very nicely finished, and the awful weather made its cosy atmosphere even better. The spa was lovely too, with a steam room, sauna, jacuzzis and water features. We stayed one night B&B, had a really relaxing time, and look forward to coming back.

The spa was the biggest disappointment. The jacuzzi was out of order, the small outdoor hot tub was crowded with residents sitting shoulder to shoulder, and there was no space for others. We managed just a few minutes before leaving to let someone else have a turn. The sauna was packed too, so between the broken equipment and the crowds, the spa wasn't usable. There are many hotels in Northern Ireland with better facilities for a relaxing stay. We came to Killyhevkin last weekend for a Mother's Day treat with my mother and cousin. The hotel and our rooms were clean and tidy. Dinner was lovely, with a nice view and a beautiful atmosphere while the piano played. The fire alarm went off around 5am and woke everyone, though I understand that was outside the hotel's control.

Studio 10 was absolutely beautiful, with stunning lake views, but the bed felt like a brick and I woke at 2am unable to sleep. All the doors are wooden and stiff, so they were noisy. Breakfast cost £36, and the whole thing felt hectic. Staff were setting and clearing tables while people tried to get breakfast, making it feel like an obstacle course. I can imagine the place is beautiful outside special occasions.

The staff throughout were friendly, welcoming and always ready to help. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choice. Rooms were spacious and clean, and the beds extremely comfortable, so we slept well. The location is fantastic for exploring the area. Pool and spa access is included, though you'll need a swimming cap for the water facilities. You can buy one there for £2 if you haven't brought one.
