White Hart, Exeter by Marston's Inns

Nigel was friendly and helpful from the moment he served us. The food was really good too, and the place looked stunning, with a great atmosphere and clearly well cared for.

We had a good stay in the newer rooms, which were nice, and the bathroom was a good size. The building is a Marstons hotel, with a historic front and a modern section at the back, plus a large business centre and conference rooms. There's a lift to the upper floors. It's well placed between the old historic wharf, with its restaurants, and the old town, about a 10-minute walk to either. Breakfast came with our booking and the food was good. Staff were attentive, though one morning we waited about 10 minutes to be served after sitting down. There's a Wetherspoons across the street if you'd prefer a low-cost breakfast. Booking directly with Marstons gets you 20% off food, and parking is free that way, otherwise it's £10. We enjoyed our stay, and Exeter is a good place to visit.

On a work trip in the area, I stayed at the White Hart and ate in the bar area. The room was spacious, really clean, and had a great-sized TV. I also had a lovely bacon chop and a couple of nice pints. The price seemed almost too reasonable for the quality. No complaints.

The food was a good call after our one-night stay. My beef pie came with mashed potatoes, carrots, kale, mangetout, and extra sauce, and it was very good. My friends enjoyed their lasagne with garlic bread and vegetable Thai curry too. Obu was busy on Friday night, but we had good service. Lovely stay, lovely food, and easy to reach from the motorway. There's a car park as well.
