Ardtalla

Breakfast was delicious, and the homemade bread and jam were too tempting even after a wonderful cooked breakfast. We also had dinner one evening, and it was a treat. After a day out, the garden is such a relaxing place to sit, or there’s a very comfortable sitting room if the weather is wet. The beautifully restored house has loads of character, and the two hosts are charming, friendly, and hard-working. We love staying here and will come back.

A log fire was roaring when we came down to breakfast, a lovely start to the day. The guest dining room and snug are delightful, and the converted Victorian police station makes for a truly distinctive B&B. We had a delicious evening meal with wine, available as an optional extra. The welcome was incredibly warm and friendly, right down to a small decanter of malt whisky in the bedroom. Such an enjoyable stay!

The bed was so comfortable it felt like it wrapped around you, and Lady Jane’s poached eggs made breakfast a perfect start to the day. Our room had lots of thoughtful touches, including a wee dram of whiskey, lovely soap and shower gel, books, and a heated towel rail. The huge shower head was a big plus for us. The hosts made us feel very welcome, then spontaneously showed us around the house and gardens and told us how they’d lovingly restored the former police station into a character-filled home. We had a very comfortable night at Ardtalla Guest House. If you want somewhere a little different, with warm hospitality and interesting conversation, this is a lovely choice.

The owners were lovely and made me feel very welcome. I stayed in the single room, where the ensuite is still being worked on, though I imagine it won’t be long. The main bathroom was perfect. There are drink-making facilities in both the room and lounge, and a mini decanter of whisky was waiting in the room when I arrived. Breakfast was substantial. It’s a lovely, characterful place, and I’ll definitely stay here again when I’m in the area.
