The food was amazing, and nothing was too much trouble in this fairy tale castle. We had our wedding here a few weeks ago and still can’t stop talking about it. The castle is fun and comfortable, but the staff are what make the venue special. Having to postpone because of the pandemic was stressful, and we knew Elise and Sonja had so many people to reschedule and keep happy. Even with all of that going on, they made us feel completely welcome and made our day so special. Thank you so much. We can’t wait to come back.

It’s about 15 minutes from Falkirk and feels like a little piece of paradise. Staying here made me feel like royalty. I wish I could give it more than five stars. I can’t put the experience into words, and I can’t wait to maybe come back.

I attended a wedding at the castle a few months ago. At first I liked the scenery and was enjoying the stay, but what happened on the day we left made me want to follow up after seeing the replies to my email and review. People may be considering this place for a big day, so I wanted to share what I experienced. In the hours before we left, I saw a new bride crying in a stairwell. I heard the business owner, Sonja, shouting and pacing as she spoke to the bride and guests. I also saw her leaning over a window to listen to guests’ conversations. She told stories I found comical to justify this behaviour. A gentleman there was cordial and seemed to try to calm things down, which struck me as quite a contrast in demeanour and professionalism. I got that impression after asking Sonja why she was listening to people’s conversations. She gave long explanations and slurs that wore me out; I could manage only two-word replies. I’d tried at least five times to say there might have been a misunderstanding. After being called a liar so many times, my eyes were rolling and I just wanted to do something more useful out of frustration. It all came from a group believing they had permission to stay an extra hour, based on verbal confirmation. Afterwards, I emailed asking for some of the “evidence” Sonja had said proved we were liars. She had offered to show me an email and direct correspondence that day. I wish I’d taken her up on it then, because after a short exchange I was told they considered the matter closed, and I was left without the evidence. In reply to their feedback to Jacqueline King, perhaps it was their first time throwing people out. It was my first time being thrown out, being called a liar by a hotel owner, hugging a crying bride the day after her wedding, and being promised evidence as an excuse for very strange behaviour, only not to receive it. We all had many firsts that day. I hope our experience was also the last for any other happy couple.

We had a twin room in the tower for my brother’s wedding over the Bank Holiday weekend. The beds were very comfortable and there were enough clean towels for two people for the whole weekend. The only downside was hearing squeaky floorboards from the room above, though the castle is 600 years old! Plane Castle is stunning and full of history. Elise and the team were second to none and couldn’t have done more to make our weekend fabulous. Thank you.
