Eden Lodge - B&B

The welcome was friendly and helpful, and we were left to enjoy Falmouth without being disturbed. The price was very reasonable. It’s about a 10 minute walk to town, though the first five minutes are quite steep. The place was tidy, with large shared spaces and even a piano for anyone inclined to play. Our ensuite room was on the third floor, up six short flights of stairs. It was a good size, the bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of lighting to set the mood. The shower worked fine, but its tray was dirty, and the towel was damp. The sink was tiny, with an oddly mounted shower style hot tap above it, leaving less space to wash than I’ve had camping. Although tidy, it could have been cleaner and needs decorating to bring up the standard.

I found the place disgusting, and feel it should be condemned. The owners seemed to have no idea about cleanliness or reality. It felt never cleaned, with no attention to detail and no sense of wellbeing. I was cringing, itching and scratching, agitated and infuriated. Someone should contact health and safety, trading standards, and environmental health. I begrudgingly gave it one star.

The hosts charged us twice, and we spent the whole weekend worrying about getting a refund. We were told there would be pool access, a bath, and breakfast, but none of that was provided. The place felt run down, the TV had no signal, and the cups in our room and most of the bathroom were dirty. The photos and price gave the wrong impression of what the stay would be like. The hosts seemed to be trying, but we still felt uncomfortable and had a horrendous stay. For somewhere claiming to be a bed and breakfast, the beds were dirty and hard, and there was no breakfast. Very poor.

The American police car in the car park was the only good thing about this place. We arrived to find the room hadn’t been cleaned properly, although the sheets were clean. There was a glasses case and an American coin on the floor. The photos didn’t match what we got, and whoever took them deserves an Oscar. For the price, I expected standard things like a fridge. The twin room, bathroom, and front door all needed replacing or major repairs, as my pictures show. The floor wasn’t level, so they’d put a piece of wood under the bedside locker. We chose not to get a cooked breakfast. After dinner in town, we were stuck outside for about five minutes because the key and latch were complicated to use, but eventually got in. This accommodation is substandard for the price they charge.
