Squirrel Lodge at Woodlands View

On my first trip to Porto, I found the place a bit out of the way, though there's a great bus stop right outside. It costs 2.50 euros by bus, compared with nearly 10 in a taxi. The room was clean and there's a nice little bar. Breakfast runs until 12, but by 11 there was no hot food left, so get there early. I thought it was rather expensive when there's a local cafe within an easy walk. I did order a great pizza for delivery, though.

A tidy, well-designed place with everything we needed for a holiday. The location is handy too, just four minutes from town and two minutes from three great attractions for kids.

DofE walkers looking for somewhere to camp overnight should look elsewhere. Even with parental supervision, they won't let people taking part in the award camp here, and they blamed the harsh decision on previous DofE walkers. On the phone they were dismissive and didn't apologise for the inconvenience. Not the best service I've had.

The lodge was lovely, comfortable and spotlessly clean for the week we stayed. We'd recommend it.
