The whole top floor was ours, with a separate bathroom, shower room and toilet. The bed was comfortable, everything was clean and tidy, and breakfast was lovely. It was quiet, with just the occasional car passing. Parking is on the driveway, but we had no issues, and it was only a six-minute drive into town, where all-day parking cost £2. We’d stay again. We heard that the main part of the vicarage dates from 1710. It’s like Doctor Who’s Tardis, much bigger inside than it looks from outside, and the furniture suits the age of the building. There’s a church next door, and its clock chimes every hour, but don’t let that put you off. We barely noticed it. As it’s an old building, there’s no lift to the top floor.

Upstairs, we had a spacious apartment that can sleep five, with a TV in one bedroom. There were dressing gowns, hot water bottles, plenty of towels, and separate shower, bathroom and loo. Downstairs there’s a shared room with a TV/DVD player, music player and books. Everything was clean and tidy, and there’s off-road parking, though it’s a bit tight. The place dates from the 1700s, so that makes sense. The hosts were fabulous, the garden lovely, and the decor full of amazing detail. It’s restful and has a real history to it. It was lovely seeing the working church next door. Town is about six minutes away by car, and the food nearby is good and not expensive. Council parking in town is super cheap. We recommend the Globe Inn and the Angel Hotel. My only thought is that I’d prefer blinds in the bathroom and loo instead of voile panels, but that’s just me. Would highly recommend staying here for something different.

Kay was an incredibly welcoming and friendly host. The breakfast was five stars, and I’ve recommended the place to all my friends and work colleagues. It’s a fantastic stay with a lovely traditional historic atmosphere.

The private apartment in this lovely old vicarage, which is also a family home, was comfortable and nicely furnished. Our host was wonderful, and we had a proper home-cooked breakfast every day.
