Morag's Lodge - Hostel

We struggled to find parking because the lot is very small, and ended up about 100 metres away by the driveway. The bar has a nice atmosphere, but only bottled beer is served, and it’s expensive. We paid extra for the buffet breakfast, which the receptionist called “continental,” but it was disappointing: no cheese or ham, just eggs, toast, yogurt, muesli, instant coffee and tea. The accommodation is great value, especially by Scottish standards. The rooms are small but clean and comfortable, and ours had a private bathroom. Soundproofing was excellent, so we didn’t hear the neighbouring rooms. It’s a large hostel with a good layout, including a kitchen, common room, bar and reception on the ground floor.

A great choice if you’re walking the Great Glen Way. We had a cosy private room with our dogs, an ensuite, a comfortable bed and a warm, powerful shower. There were plenty of places to hang things up to air, and the bedside lamps had both USB-A and USB-C sockets, handy for charging several devices overnight. The hostel is super cosy, with friendly staff and nice shared spaces, including a great little self-catering kitchen and comfortable sofas in reception.

It’s a hostel, so don’t expect luxury. The rooms were warm and clean, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. There’s a very effective drying room, though it’s tiny. A bar is available, along with a limited choice of evening meals. Breakfast in the morning includes cereal, fruit, hot drinks, toast and boiled eggs.
