We wanted Chinese food on a cold evening and stopped at Richmond House Hotel. The hot and sour soup and chowmein hit the spot, with plenty of flavour and good value. Service was fast, and we really enjoyed the experience.

The Chinese restaurant attached to the hotel served one of the best meals we've had on our trip, and the host made us feel at home right away. We had a wonderful stay at The Richmond House Hotel. It's right in the heart of town, across from the Loch Ness Caledonian Canal Cruises Centre, which made getting around very convenient. Free private parking was a big bonus, too. Great hospitality, a handy location, and amazing food. We couldn't have asked for a better stay and highly recommend it.

Room 4 was basic and dated, but acceptable. The shower was disgusting, with a bad smell and what looked like mould. I ended up washing at the sink instead of using it. That room really needs a deep clean, and then another one.

This place has an attractive, old-world charm and a cozy, generous family feel. The family-owned hostess made us feel welcome. The restaurant is just steps from the room, with lots of international food options as well as Scottish drinks. It's close to Loch Ness cruises and within walking distance of everything in Fort Augustus.

The main problem was the noise. The hotel is joined to a restaurant, which wasn't mentioned, and there was no partition between it and the rooms. We heard cutlery falling, takeaway phone orders, and people talking downstairs. The plumbing was awful and very loud, too. We could hear other guests using showers and toilets at all hours. We were asked to write down breakfast choices and handed them in, but I asked for cereal and got toast instead. The one woman serving was being pulled in every direction by guests who hadn't received hot drinks or even their food. Our room was tidy and clean enough, with nice complimentary toiletries, but it wasn't close to being worth the £95 we paid for one night. We booked this place on our Scotland holiday, but if you're visiting Fort Augustus, I wouldn't bother staying overnight. There's not much to do, and it's not worth the stay. Perhaps stop while passing through, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it unless you're desperate, as we were when everywhere else was booked.
