Premier Inn Fort William

After travelling, I was hoping for a bath, and the receptionist thoughtfully gave me bath salts. The staff were helpful, the freshly decorated room and lovely bathroom felt great, and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was nice and hot too.

We stopped here on the way to the Highlands, and it was great to stay in Fort William, which we love. The staff were all lovely, both at reception and in the restaurant. I think the place had just been refurbished, and it was neat and tidy, with clean rooms and bathrooms. It's a quiet area, a five-minute walk from the town centre and right beside Morrison's, with loads of parking. We'd stay again.

We left a day early after booking three nights. We checked in late the first night, stayed the second hoping things might improve, then decided to cut our losses. The hotel is being improved, but the room we got was run down. The corridor carpet was filthy, and our bedroom had stained walls, a damp smell and dirt. The heating was off and we had to turn it on ourselves. There was mould in the bathroom, the panel under the sink had fallen off (I fixed it), and the HDMI socket under the TV was damaged. There were scorch marks where the kettle sits, and the low-energy bulbs made the room dim. Breakfast was buffet style, but the food was stone cold and poor. When I asked, a waitress said the hot counter wasn't working, so the food went uneaten, and several other guests complained too. The online photos are misleading, and guests should be told before booking that not every room matches the sales pitch.

This was the most American-style hotel I stayed in during my visit from the States, and I wasn't impressed. There were stains all over the bedding, and the rooms didn't feel very clean or comfortable. Getting luggage in and out was a real pain because the front entrance was the only proper way in or out.
