George Hotel

The staff made a real effort to keep breakfast comfortable for everyone because our dog can react to other dogs. They even gave her some attention and a little breakfast of her own, so she’d give The George Hotel & Granary five stars too. Everyone was friendly and professional throughout, including when I accidentally set off the fire alarm early one morning. Sorry again for waking people up! We stayed four nights with our excitable dog. The building is beautiful, with some older features as you'd expect from a listed place. Our room was clean and a decent size. The beds felt a bit too soft to me, though my companion and dog were happy with them. There were good breakfast choices, including lactose free yoghurt and gluten free options, which I appreciated. Staff were helpful even before we arrived, when I called to check a few details. Would we stay again? Absolutely.

For £56 on a weekday, we got a lovely room in an old Grade 2 listed building, with secure parking and both continental and full English breakfast included. The room showed its age in places but was clean and presentable, and breakfast was lovely. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful, and the service felt five star. There’s plenty of food and drink to choose from, and we had the nachos. The pub also has three TVs showing live sports and a selection of board games. Frome’s bars, restaurants and music spots are only a few minutes’ walk away. Thanks, George hotel, we had a brilliant stay and I’d come again.

The roast dinner on Sunday was lovely, and breakfast was delicious too, with homemade hash browns, butcher’s sausages, thick bacon and generous portions. We were really well looked after by everyone, from the waitresses and bar staff to housekeeping. They couldn’t do enough for us. The room was comfortable and spotless, with a comfy 6 ft bed, crisp white linen, posh coffee bags, several teas, hot chocolate, Border biscuits and milk sachets, plus oat milk. The bathroom had natural complimentary toiletries and big fluffy towels. Parking is free, though the car park is small and tight. We managed to park each day, and the cars are kept behind a big steel shutter gate. The hotel gives you the padlock number, so our car felt completely secure. This place was incredibly cheap for such a good time, and I’m already thinking about booking again. I was worried after reading the Tripadvisor reviews, but I needn’t have been. I do wonder what some people expect from an older building. There’s always a ridiculous moaner with unrealistic expectations, tut tut!

Breakfast was fantastic, and Vicky and Katelyn were brilliant. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Our room was warm, comfortable, clean and welcoming. A lovely stay at The George, and I’d very much recommend it.
