The George

Yesterday's meal with my husband and two friends was amazing, and the young waitress was excellent too. The portions are really generous, so go very hungry! We're lucky to have the George Hotel here in Kirton. Thanks to Glen, the chef and all the staff.

The steak pie was off the chart, and the old pub has lovely rooms, friendly staff and a restaurant. The bar has real fires and feels cosy. Parking is in the square in front, with plenty of spaces even on a Saturday, and it's a lovely little village. There are only two pubs, though brigg is a bus ride away. If you have mobility issues, don't book rooms 8, 9, or 10. We had dinner booked for 5pm, so I may update this later with pictures. The cocktails are reasonably priced but hit and miss: my first long Island ice tea was blow-your-socks-off strong, while the second seemed like fruit juice with loads of ice. My wife tried expresso Mariani and Bakewell cherry, and says the latter is her favourite cocktail ever.

It's a popular place, so make sure to book ahead. The staff are welcoming, and the specials board has an interesting range with something different to try each time. The George Restaurant and Bar serves high-quality food that tastes great. Highly recommended.

Lunch was so good there's already another trip in the works. Not a single complaint about the food. The staff were welcoming, and the pub had just the right feel for lunch. There's a little bohemian-style outdoor seating area with blankets, which is a lovely touch. I'd highly recommend it.
