Gidleigh Park

We’ll always remember my wife’s birthday afternoon tea here on 1st June 2026. We’d won it with raffle tickets at the local Chagford show in 2025, and probably wouldn’t have tried somewhere like this otherwise. The grounds and the hotel’s standards amazed us, especially after the winding, narrow drive to reach this gem. Staff were attentive, polite, and happy to help with anything. We were glad we dressed up a little and enjoyed feeling like lords and ladies, seeing how the other half live if you have the money! The food was delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented, with as much as possible sourced locally. We enjoyed every minute, and thank you for having us.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the food has a reputation it lives up to. The rooms and public areas are lovely, tastefully furnished, with wonderful views across the setting. Gidleigh Park sits in peaceful isolation in Devon, near Chagford and Dartmoor, and the surrounding countryside is beautiful for touring. You could happily spend days here. It’s a picture-perfect traditional country house hotel, just right if you value quiet and don’t need lots of distracting amenities.

The bluebell walks were stunning, and the grounds were beautifully kept. Getting there meant tackling some difficult roads, but the peaceful setting made it worthwhile. Afterwards, our three-course meal was very tasty and satisfying, even if the portions didn’t look large. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Highly recommended. We didn’t stay overnight, so I can’t rate the rooms.

The gardens are lovely, and Gidleigh Park is ideally placed for a marvellous walk over Dartmoor. In our room, everything was beautiful and there was all I could need. Staff made us feel welcome, were friendly, and handled everything efficiently. They also took note of our different allergies and preferences and catered for them. The food was out of this world. I can’t praise Gidleigh Park highly enough.
