The Victorian House

It didn’t live up to what I expected for comfort or atmosphere. The hotel feels quite old and poorly maintained, and the staff came across as unprofessional.

The Victorian House is a well-kept local place near the university in Glasgow, and my room had the amenities described. The staff were friendly and easy to approach. It’s about a 20-minute walk from the train station, mostly uphill, which is worth bearing in mind if you have luggage. The price is reasonable, and online booking portals may have better deals. Breakfast is served on site, though there are lots of other options within walking distance, especially towards the university. A few corridor signs would make it easier for guests to find their way, and that seems like a simple improvement. If you just need a place to sleep before a university meeting, it does the job. My impression of the Victorian House was positive overall, even though there’s room to improve.

The renovation work in progress gave me a shock when I first walked in, but I was very pleased with my room. It was large and clean, with a gigantic, comfortable bed. Staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast had a fantastic range of choices. I especially liked the coffee from the machine. I could hear a lot of outside noise and other guests moving about during the night. Still, I’d definitely stay again. The prices are reasonable, and I hope they stay low after the work is finished.

For less than 200 for two of us for three nights, I can’t complain. The rooms are spacious and very clean. They’re basic, but have everything you might need. The beds are super comfy, the showers hot and powerful, and the staff are really nice, kind and welcoming. I’ll come again.
