I don’t usually stay at this particular site, but I’ll keep it as a backup for when my usual places are full. I had one of the relatively new Premier Inn Plus rooms, which was very nice: a better bathroom, larger TV, coffee machine with a few free pods, and different furniture. The restaurant food was well cooked and thought through, much like at other Premier Inn locations I’ve stayed at.

Breakfast starts at 7am, which is handy if you’re working on a Saturday. There was a good self-service choice and the staff were welcoming. The location worked well for me too, just five minutes from where I was working. Hotel check-in staff were good, but the room was less satisfactory. Although the shower looked new, its pressure on the first floor seemed to fluctuate, and after a long day at work the water was either hot or cold. The adjoining pub’s food was mediocre. I ordered steak pie with chips and peas, and the portions were like a child’s, with only a small amount of peas and chips. Staff were attentive but forgot my dessert, hence four stars and three for the room.

We stopped in for breakfast and had the self-service full English, with toast and baguettes. We were told the restaurant may be residents-only in the coming months, so it’s probably best to phone first and check you can get in.

The only issue was some hair left in the bathroom by the previous guest. Apart from that, the room was lovely, huge and extremely comfortable, with no other problems.

A standard Premier Inn, with clean rooms and a comfortable bed. There’s a Brewers Fayre attached, serving good food at good prices, including breakfast. I’ve no complaints about any of the food I tried.
