The Kings Arms and Royal Hotel, Godalming, Surrey

We've stayed at the Kings Arms, eaten in the restaurant and used the venue for functions, and every experience earned top marks. My mother's funeral reception was held there. They set aside a cosy area and served an inventive, tasty buffet that everyone enjoyed. When we stayed, the room was well equipped, comfortable and cosy, and our wider family who stayed agreed. An Indian chef was working there at the time, and his food was excellent in both flavour and presentation. Staff and manager Di were always helpful. Thank you all. Godalming is also a lovely place to browse.

Elizabeth and Luke took great care of us and couldn't have been more helpful. The staff were fantastic from the moment we arrived until we left, always friendly and ready to help. We had a great stay and will definitely return.

I was here for work with my daughter, and we had a lovely stay. The room was quirky, clean and much more spacious than expected, with two double beds, a bath and shower, slippers, bathrobes, coffee, water and biscuits. We enjoyed breakfast and also ate dinner in the restaurant. The food was fresh, tasty and made just how we liked it. The staff were helpful.

We enjoyed our evening meal at the restaurant and found plenty of choice at breakfast. The hotel ended up being far better than we'd expected, and we'd stay again if we were in the area. We'd booked two standard doubles, one for us and one for our daughters. We arrived a little early, and since only one room was ready, we let our daughters take it. After waiting half an hour, we were surprised to be given The Queen Victoria and Albert Suite. Along with a spacious bedroom, it had an anteroom with books and games and a small patio just for that room. Portraits and photos of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert decorated it. The bathroom was spotless and the shower easy to use. Our daughters' room was just as high a standard, but without the anteroom.
