The room didn’t provide the basics I expect from a hotel. The boiler stopped working overnight, leaving me without heating or hot water for a shower, and neither had returned by the next morning. I was offered another room, but if the boiler was faulty, moving wouldn’t have solved it. Noise was another serious problem. Doors slammed, every conversation carried, and I couldn’t sleep for more than an hour or two at a stretch. A much cheaper Premier Inn was far quieter, with soft-close doors. The location was great, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. After I checked out, I emailed management politely. They offered £40 off this stay and a discount on a future one. With rooms usually costing over £200 a night, that didn’t come close to fair compensation. I’d have to spend around £400 in total to get only about £70-80 off. I turned it down because the offer felt extremely poor for the experience, and I don’t plan to return. I’ve stayed at the Premier Inn down the road for almost half the price and had a much better stay.

One thing to know before booking: the hotel asks for a £100 deposit at check-in, but that wasn’t mentioned during booking. It would be helpful to make that clearer, since the unexpected cost could cause problems for some guests. The old listed building has no lift, and the building’s limitations affect soundproofing between rooms and floors. Neither spoiled my visit, though the stairs could be an issue for anyone with mobility needs. My room was clean, spacious, comfortable, and well equipped with toiletries, tea and coffee, a robe, and an iron and ironing board. Breakfast was nice, staff were friendly and helpful, and it’s a perfect location for the city centre. I’d recommend it and would book again.

The hotel is clean and well maintained, and it was useful to have an iron and ironing board. Getting around was easy: St Andrews tram station is a five-minute walk away, the railway station is roughly 10-12 minutes on foot, and Princes Street is about 10-15 minutes away. Service was excellent, and Maria and ellie were especially kind, welcoming, and helpful. The rest of the staff were pleasant and friendly too. My husband and I enjoyed our two-day stay at the New Town Hotel in Edinburgh. Breakfast was okay, though I would have liked more variety. The only small downside was that there’s no lift, so the stairs got a bit tiring. I had a very comfortable stay and would recommend the hotel for its location, service, and clean rooms.

We had afternoon tea for two at the Newtown House Hotel yesterday, and there were actually three of us sharing. That wasn’t a problem, and we just paid for an extra coffee. There was so much food that we couldn’t finish it all and took some cakes home. Everything was plentiful and delicious. The hotel has been completely refurbished and looks lovely. I’d absolutely recommend a visit.

Mariea and Ellie gave us such a warm welcome and made us feel at home. Their service was outstanding. The room had a beautiful view, which made the stay feel extra special. The location is fantastic, right near the tram stop and about a 10-minute walk from Waverley Edinburgh Station, so getting around was easy. Breakfast was amazing, with lots of fresh choices, and there was a great selection of coffee and tea. Highly recommended!
