The White Lion

The first few staff I met were very friendly. One night in January there was a problem with the heating, but they found a portable heater. There’s a garden for smoking, and the pub downstairs can be noisy, which is to be expected. Aside from that particular night, I was able to sleep and use the shower and other facilities.

We spent a weekend here in July. The room was comfortable, and the bathroom down the hall was okay, though it could use some updating. The heat was nearly unbearable. They had a fan, but it only moved the air around and didn’t cool the room much. Check-in isn’t possible until 4-4:30, when the bar opens.

The spacious room was clean and quiet, and the hotel had no drama. The owner was friendly and helpful. It’s close to town, with lots of shops and takeaways just a stone’s throw away. The building has plenty of old English character, but also all the modern conveniences. I couldn’t have been happier and would definitely recommend staying here.

The room was badly decorated and small, with two single beds even though I’d asked for a double. It was very hot, and the fan didn’t help, while making a noise like a plane taking off. The toilet was along the corridor, and the bathroom looked tired.
