The Daffodil Hotel

We brought our fluffy Frenchie along and he was made to feel at home too, which meant a lot. The views were inspiring, and there’s plenty to do nearby. It all felt like good value for money. The Daffodil Hotel & Spa was spotless and relaxing, and the staff were among the friendliest we’ve come across. They made us feel welcome throughout and nothing seemed too much trouble. We had a memorable, relaxing stay and can’t wait to come back.

The room got uncomfortable at times because it was hot, there was no window to open, and the air conditioning struggled. Still, we had a lovely stay in a beautiful hotel and would definitely come back. Strickland at the bar deserves a mention. He was warm and engaging every time we went in, and his friendliness made us feel special.

The quirky art around the hotel was what I liked most, with lovely colour schemes in the rooms and artwork tucked into corners and corridors. Breakfast was good and the service efficient. Our room was clean and spacious, with a comfortable king-size bed and a clean, roomy bathroom with both a shower and bath. Moses, the reception manager, greeted us gently and politely. The location by Grasmere lake was superb, with stunning lake and mountain views. The bus stop was only a few yards away, and Wordsworth Museum and walking paths were easy to reach. We’ve just come back from a lovely two-night stay. Thanks to the team.

The spa was a nice place to unwind after walking, and it wasn’t busy during our visit. In busier months, though, I can imagine it getting cramped. Quite a few mosaic tiles were missing from the underwater pool seating, leaving some sharp spots. We also had a 1am fire alarm, with no explanation and no apology at checkout, which seemed strange. Aside from that, it was a very nice and convenient place to stay for seeing the lakes. Our room was large, with good facilities and a lovely water view, and it was surprisingly quiet despite being by the main road into grasmere. Check-in was quick and reception staff were informative. Restaurant staff at dinner and breakfast were helpful and made sure we had what we needed.
