Hilborough Swan Inn

We left embarrassed and uneasy, and won't be coming back. We'd booked lunch for two and our dog three weeks ahead, confirming everything by phone with a friendly young lady on 30 April. Since we'd recently moved to the area and hadn't tried The Swan, we chose it for my husband's birthday. As soon as my husband came into the packed bar with our dog, a member of staff abruptly said, "We have no tables for dogs." There was no welcome or apology. I reminded the waitress about our reservation, but she denied knowing a dog was included and didn't acknowledge the booking. Other diners had heard and a couple offered us their table. Instead, the waitress moved a couple who had just taken the last table into the restaurant, where dogs aren't allowed. During our meal, the same waitress cleaned two empty tables that nobody came to use. She kept spraying the table right beside us, and the cleaning spray covered us. After that, we finished eating, paid and left. Not a great experience.

We stopped in for lunch with our three year old daughter and had excellent food. The burger might be the best I've ever had. Children eating free over Easter was a fantastic bonus. We can't recommend the place enough and will definitely come back if we're passing through again.

We had dinner one evening and Sunday lunch another time. The food was very good, the staff friendly, and dogs are welcome too.

I found this listed on Search 4 Sites as a free campervan stopover. When I arrived and asked at the bar, they quoted £25 to stay. If I'd known that beforehand, I would have gone somewhere else. I've asked Search 4 Sites to change the listing from free to £25.
