The food was lovely, the atmosphere was great, and I can’t fault the rooms or the amenities available during the stay. Most of the staff were brilliant, though I think they were struggling with being understaffed. As paying club guests, we felt we were spoken to differently from the regulars. I understand those people have built relationships with staff, but everyone should feel equally welcome. I’d love to go back, though I wish they offered day passes.

Breakfast was okay, but it wasn’t clear what was included. Could we have a small bowl of fruit or granola and some juice alongside the main? The table next to us was asked if they wanted more drinks, but we weren’t. Maybe that was because the woman was an influencer and we’re just normal. Breakfast is arguably the most important part of a stay, since it’s the last impression. The place is lovely, but the attention to detail, which I won’t list, doesn’t match the high price compared with places like Congham Hall. I wouldn’t return, though I’d still recommend a visit if you haven’t been. We had lunch outside among the wisteria trees and really liked the scallops and steak sandwich. The receptionist was lovely and polite, as were the other staff. Our traditional room had a big bathroom with a range of shower products. The property and grounds are beautiful, and the gardens, tennis courts, volleyball area, gym and pool bar all looked great. The pool was clean and warm, but very busy. Luckily, we found sun loungers in the pleasant garden. We had a nice stay on Saturday night.

The clubhouse was the highlight of my weekend. We sat by a roaring open fire with a glass of really good wine, and the food was OUTSTANDING. There’s gorgeous scenery, a beautiful lake, a large heated outdoor pool and plenty more. It’s also well placed for several lovely beaches. I loved every minute and can’t wait to return.

The boats were a lot of fun for the adults, though my 2-year-old hated them. She loved the play park, and we all enjoyed the 30-degree outdoor pool. The venue’s look, feel and upkeep were great too, making it a great place to visit with my father and daughter. The meal was a letdown after such a fantastic day. Three of us ordered the peppers, which were a special, but they were so hot none of us could eat them. We sent them back and they weren’t replaced. A toasted sandwich arrived both cold and burnt. We sent it back, and the replacement was burnt again, though at least warm. The chips for the table were cold too. We mentioned all of this while eating. The food was worth half to one star at best.

My partner surprised me with a stay in lodge 44, the most exclusive one on the estate. The lake view was amazing, and there was loads of room for a barbecue. It felt modern and comfortable, with underfloor heating and everything we could have needed. We can’t wait to stay again.
