The bed was genuinely comfortable, and the shower had great pressure. After that, though, the stay went downhill. The room needed attention, with cobwebs in the corners, grubby door handles and décor that looked overdue for renovation. Noise made it hard to rest. I could hear every step in neighbouring rooms through the floorboards, even early in the morning. Maintenance seemed to start at dawn too, with bottle bins being emptied before breakfast. Breakfast was sparse and poor quality, and the tea tasted like hot water that had briefly met a teabag. I skipped dinner at the hotel, and breakfast didn’t make me regret that choice. The staff were mostly unfriendly, as if guests were interrupting their day. When I tried to give the receptionist constructive feedback, they looked away and quickly said “thanks.” I didn’t get the sense they welcomed it or would act on it. For the price, I expected more. I’ve stayed at many hotels in the same bracket, and this was well below expectations. Better cleanliness, service, maintenance timing and food could make a big difference, because there are the beginnings of a decent stay here.

Food was divine, honestly. If heaven were a restaurant, this would be it. The staff were so kind, helpful and engaging that I wish local shops and services would take a lesson from them. This was my first time at the hotel. Because of booking agent issues I was moved between several rooms, which wasn’t the hotel’s fault. Each evening I was welcomed back, and staff checked whether I needed anything and offered to get it. The rooms are basic compared with hotels outside the region, but they were warm and clean. My last room was on the top floor and needed blackout blinds. I’m sensitive to light when I sleep, so I didn’t rest well there. The basement rooms I’d had earlier were warm and dark, and I slept much better. Would I return? Yes. Enjoy, folks.

We stayed overnight, and the rooms were beautiful and clean. The staff were lovely too. The letdown was the food at my engagement party here in April 2025. We had vegans and vegetarians, including me, and none of us got a hot filled roll. I don’t think those rolls are a great choice to begin with, so none of us ate for the whole night. All we got was an apology.

The staircase in the middle of the hotel was the standout feature for me. It’s a beautiful place, with lots of function spaces, and the rooms were clean, spacious, comfortable and affordable. It’s handy for the town centre. We walked in on Sunday afternoon along the esplanade and back, a lovely walk.

Lovely room and good food. A pint and other alcohol cost more than at the local pubs.
