Greywalls Hotel and Chez Roux

It took nearly a week to get a booking sorted. Calls, emails and voicemails went unanswered until I finally reached someone at the hotel. After that, I heard poor reports about service here and at another Marine and Lawn hotel, including inexperienced staff with little supervision and some too young to serve alcohol. When I tried to get reassurance, my messages went unanswered again. This used to be a special, distinctive getaway, but since Marine and Lawn bought it, it feels ruined. I came to think the new owners had made severe staffing cuts, and that spending close to a thousand pounds for two people for two nights would end in disappointment. I emailed and left voicemails to cancel and asked for confirmation. It took five days to hear back. We won't return or try any of Marine and Lawn's other venues.

The views from Greywalls are lovely in every direction, over the golf course and firth as well as across the immaculate grounds. The hotel itself is stunning, and the gardens are beautiful. The Head Gardener even showed me around and introduced me to the hotel's chickens and its 120 year old tortoise. Duncan helped make my stay especially enjoyable, and Tom went above and beyond. Everyone was so warm and friendly. I had a gorgeous stay and really hope to come back soon.

We were very well looked after from the moment we arrived. The staff were attentive, and both the restaurant and breakfast were amazing. There are lovely gardens to wander around too. Fantastic hotel, well worth visiting.

I had a lovely, quiet one night stay. The interiors felt warm and comfortable, and the service was excellent. My bed in the golf wing was soft, with beautiful views. Javier and Craig were both really helpful and gave great customer service. I'd highly recommend it for couples or solo travellers wanting a bit of luxury.
