Friendly staff, and it’s easy to drop in since it’s right on the high street. The bar menu is good and the food tasty. It’s a good hotel and pub, with a medium-sized function room and its own separate bar for groups of up to 45.

We had a cosy, welcoming stay at the King’s Head Hotel in Abergavenny. The atmosphere was warm, the food was lovely, and the staff were genuinely friendly. Janak deserves a special mention for going out of their way to make our visit feel personal and relaxed. Highly recommend!

My husband and I had our first visit to Abergavenny recently and stayed at the King's Head Hotel. The food and service were the best, and we met the kindest people. We’ll definitely come back!

We chose this hotel because it was halfway between my mate and me, and it was the only one in Abergavenny with rooms free. There’s probably a reason for that. I have stage 4 terminal cancer, and we were desperate to meet up as friends from school, both in our 50’s. Both our rooms were filthy and smelled of smoke. I suspect they’re used by staff or family, since Netflix in both rooms was set to the same international language. The curtains were coming off their rails, and the walls and woodwork were poorly maintained, scuffed, chipped, and still in 80’s beige. There was hair everywhere and it felt dirty to stay there. Why pay £207 to leave a beautiful home and stay in a filthy hotel? My mate complained first and was moved to a family room. It was a bit cleaner, but not much. I felt physically sick in my room, so I told them and handed back the key. I’d tried all the other hotels but none had rooms, so I ended up sharing my mate’s room. I asked for the cost of one room back and said they could charge for breakfast if I gave it a chance. They refused and said I was one of those people who always wants something free. That’s completely untrue. I explained my situation, but they showed no care. They said I was breaking the law by sharing, but what else could I do? I didn’t want the smoke smell all over the bed, and there was no hot water in the shower. They were very rude. At breakfast they were nowhere to be seen. The girl serving was very polite, but the breakfast was cash and carry, not fresh. I’d suggest staying well away. Next door has beautiful fresh food and its outdoor booths were full all day. The King’s Head booths were empty, which tells you everything.

We had a great stay at kings head hotel. The staff were friendly, and the accommodation was just right. They were gracious and very accommodating when we needed to switch dates. I can’t recommend them enough!
