We all really enjoyed the food and are glad we gave the place a try. My spinach and chickpea balti pie was delicious with carvery veg, good mash and tasty roast potatoes. They weren’t mushy like some. My husband enjoyed the pie of the day with chips and veg, and our daughter’s kids meal was very reasonably priced, two courses for £7.95 with a huge ice cream. The menu has a good choice, especially for vegetarians. Service was good, and the owner was clearly training the staff, but everyone was friendly and smiley. The only downside was my husband’s dessert, which he enjoyed, but £7.95 felt steep. The portions are generous anyway, so we’ll go again but skip dessert.

The salt and pepper calamari was the most tender I’ve had, and the crispy pork belly bites were delicious too. We visited with friends today, and from the moment we walked in the staff welcomed us like old friends, even though it was our first time. Everyone was smiley and looked after us. I’ll definitely be back, one happy customer.

Seth looked after us so well, he was lovely and really efficient. We stopped at The Stump Cross after my daughter’s gymnastics competition in the city centre, and had a lovely meal in a nice atmosphere. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the pub to friends and family. Thanks for a lovely meal 😊

I’ve been stewing on this, but I need to say something. We should have sent the food back. My partner’s steak pie had obviously been reheated several times and he couldn’t cut it. Why didn’t we return it? My seafood pasta was just about edible. Why did we pay for such awful food?

The fries were golden and crisp, and the Stump Stack burger was a hit too, juicy, well seasoned and cooked just right. Great service and a relaxed atmosphere made for a really good visit. I’ll definitely come back.
