Our big multigenerational family stayed in the cottages and bunk rooms a few years ago for a winter wedding at nearby Langley Castle. The accommodation suited us perfectly: it was spotless, comfortable and well equipped, and very HAUNTED. We had three lovely days there, including a beautiful walk to Hadrian's Wall the morning after our nephew's wedding. Since nobody else was booked in on departure day, our host let us take our time and enjoy the amazing surroundings before and after the wedding. Highly recommend!

For my birthday walking weekend, we rented the bunkhouse and found it cold, unclean and in a very sad state of disrepair. The rooms were mouldy, buckets were catching drips on the windowsills, some bulbs were missing, and the fire alarms had no batteries. There was no heating. I asked our host, Val Gibson, to turn it on; after a few attempts to work on the boiler, she gave up, and we had no heat for the weekend. WiFi only worked when standing directly outside Vals house, and there was no phone signal. The decking was rotten, with metal rails cable-tied on as a backup. There was no hand soap, and the showers and toilets hadn't been cleaned. Paying £500.00 for my birthday weekend left me feeling ripped off.

The host was lovely, and the cooked breakfast was delicious. From the approach to the farm, there are lovely panoramic views. The hostel was clean and the beds comfortable, though the shower temperature fluctuated a little. The layout was a bit odd for our room: to reach the kitchen, bathroom and other facilities, we had to go through another dorm room or head outside and around.

The cottage was a bit dated, but comfortable and accommodating. We loved every moment there, with wonderful access to Hadrian's wall and local attractions.

A great place to stay for walking Hadrian's wall. The owner was very accommodating, and the bunk house was a great facility.
