The building is lovely and has some historic features, but several things brought the stay down. The bed was really uncomfortable. We paid extra for a bigger one, but it was just two single beds pushed together, and the mattress badly needs replacing. The carpet was grubby, the floorboards creaked a lot, and we only had two bath towels, so there was nothing for drying my hair. There was mould around the bath, the heating was often off, and at one point we had no hot water. It felt like everything was rationed, even the tea tray in our double room came with only one biscuit. At breakfast, I asked for my toast with the meal rather than ten minutes earlier, and the server audibly sighed as if it was a huge inconvenience. For £200, I expected better.

Parking is tight, and I couldn’t get my van in. Luckily I found free parking on the next side street, so bear that in mind if you’re coming. The hotel can’t do much about it with the old building and its walls, but it’s still worth a visit. The room was spacious, with a large bathroom, breakfast was superb, and the staff were friendly. It’s a lovely old building in a nice part of town, around a 10-15 minute walk downhill to the centre. At £67 a night, it was an absolute bargain.

I felt at home and safe during my five-day stay at Ascot House. It’s a gorgeous hotel within walking distance of Harrogate’s popular landmarks, and the breakfast is second to none. David, Annabel, her mother, and the rest of the staff were simply magic, going above and beyond to make me comfortable. I’ll definitely stay at Ascot House again. Thank you, David, you’re a beautiful gentleman inside and out ♥️
