The Marine Hotel

We only meant to stop for a drink after walking along the beach, but ended up staying for food. The place has a warm atmosphere, and the food was stunning, with a good classic menu and some of the best chips ever. It looks like it would be lovely to stay here too. First visit, and we'll certainly come back.

The food and drinks were excellent, and the dining spaces were just as clean and well presented as the rooms. Some rooms look out over the bay, depending on where you’re staying, which made it feel extra special. My room was spotless and tidy, with care taken over the details, and the staff did a lot to make both me and my engineer feel welcome and comfortable. Free parking for guests is a nice bonus. Even if you’re not staying here, the food is worth a visit. Thanks to everyone, it’s always a pleasure to come back.

I only got round to writing this after finding my notes on my phone. The night receptionist was amazing, and the breakfast staff were brilliant too. I arrived very late after an eight-hour drive and was met by a short, heavily tattooed, very cute, smiley bearded guy with glasses. He reminded me to enter my car registration so I wouldn’t get fined, and explained the bar stays open all night for residents, even when the lights are off while he cleans up and saves electricity. When he saw I was on the top floor, he offered to carry my bags. I awkwardly said I had no money for a tip, and he laughed, saying he never asks for that. After the long climb upstairs, he showed me to my room and said he’d be at reception all night if I needed anything. Breakfast started at 7, with someone there to seat and serve me. The room was okay, with a nice seafront view. Road noise wasn’t too bad, though the heavy rain on the old roof was loud. The bedding could be better, and maybe the coffee could be changed. Breakfast was decent, but the sausages weren’t the best.

The staff are brilliant, and parking is free. If you stay overnight, just remember to use the parking app at reception, or at the bar if you’re there for the day. We meet here regularly and get good service and a good menu. I’ve also stayed overnight a few times in the recently refurbished rooms.
