The Sunday roast was genuinely delicious, especially the vegetables, and some of the best we've had in the Peak District. We had booked ahead for a large group and weren't in a hurry, but the wait was still very long, over an hour for the food. Even the bread and olives took nearly 45 minutes. With a big kitchen backlog, it would have helped if someone had let us know and offered something to make the wait easier. The staff and food were great, though my wife might have rated the experience less generously than I did. It may be worth trimming the menu at busy Sunday lunch times if orders are hard to keep up with.

The pub was cosy, with a warm fire, tasty food and drink, and friendly staff. We booked this one night stay at short notice and brought our dog. Our room was spacious and clean, with a very large bathroom and a good shower. The bed was comfortable and the linens were lovely. It was quiet on the edge of the village, about a 10-15 minute walk depending on the route. The owners made us feel very welcome, breakfast was superb, and we slept well. Just what we wanted for a Peak District night before walking in the beautiful area. Faultless.

Stanley, our dog, was treated like a prince, and the staff were so friendly. We arrived around 20th December after a five-hour drive and got to relax by the fire. The food was amazing, with a great twist, and the chef came out for a lovely, chatty conversation. The rooms are a bit dated, but that's the only downside. We'll be back!

We came for Saturday afternoon drinks with a group of 35, and the staff were incredibly helpful, going out of their way to keep us out of the rain. They made us feel special for our celebration. It's an amazing pub with lovely outdoor areas, and we'll definitely come back in summer. Couldn't recommend it enough.

The outdoor restaurant seating is the nicest spot, and you can sit there just for drinks when diners aren't keeping it busy. The pub is in a lovely location, with friendly staff. Food and drinks are a little pricey.
