The meal was the star of the visit. I tried all three courses, and each one reminded me how much I’d been missing good restaurant cooking. The squid was perfectly done, better than any I’ve had elsewhere. Chicken with Stilton was juicy and dreamy, and the vegetables and potatoes were right on point too. Even the warm, gooey brownie won me over, which doesn’t always happen with brownies. Huge credit to the kitchen. Service started warmly, and I was offered a drink almost straight away. I’d mentioned earlier that I was looking for Ken Forrester wine from Lathwaites to top up the cabinet, and they had the 2025 Ken Forrester Chenin. My quick tip is to bring in the 2024, which is much nicer. Still, the wine selection was good. I rarely give a five, but every part of this meal earned it.

We had a lovely time at the Hawkley Inn, and the drinks were lovely too. There were four of us. We skipped starters, then wished we hadn’t when our mains took over an hour to arrive. The food was really good once it came, though, and we all enjoyed it. Highly recommended 👌

A welcoming traditional country pub for locals and visitors alike. We dropped in for a light lunch while out walking, and the staff made us feel very welcome. The food was high quality and very reasonably priced.

Breakfast was included and lovely, and the owners were warm and welcoming. We stayed after a wedding reception and got an Uber from Liphook at around midnight, even though the inn is a little out of the way. It’s a cosy little place, and we’d definitely return if we’re in the area again.

Avoid this pub. We’d visited several times before, but it had been about six months since our last visit, and things have really gone downhill. We came for Sunday birthday dinner. It was fairly quiet, though we’ve seen it much busier. We were given the wrong menu twice, and ordering took ages. The roast was okay, but nowhere near as good as it used to be. The food seems to have changed, perhaps with a new chef, while the price stayed the same. Cauliflower cheese, which has always been a side, arrived lukewarm ten minutes after the roast, and only after we asked where it was. We ordered dessert and waited half an hour with no update. When we asked, a staff member said she’d check, then came back to say there was no sticky toffee left. We asked why it took 30 minutes to tell us, and the woman, who we later learned was the manager, said, “the kitchen don’t communicate to us”. Unbelievable. We weren’t charged for the dessert, but had to ask for some kind of discount for the inconvenience, which we did get.
