Middleton Inn, Manchester

Bugs were all over the bed, and the room was filthy. I know it’s a budget hotel, but that’s no excuse for such poor hygiene. It wasn’t a safe environment for our daughter. Our booking couldn’t be refunded, and even though the room was completely unacceptable and unhygienic, they offered us no refund. We were told it was our fault for booking a non-refundable stay. The way they handled it was unacceptable, and we were extremely disappointed. I strongly advise people to avoid this place.

The grounds are beautiful, the beds were so comfortable, and the service felt personal without being intrusive. We left feeling fully recharged. We were there while dining at The Inn at Little Washington, just a short walk away, and the Middleton Inn was every bit as much of a highlight. A quiet, romantic escape, and we’ll definitely be back.

For a one-night business stay, there were a few good points: a very welcoming young man at reception, a quiet location, a comfortable bed, a TV with apps, and a reasonable price for the area. I would stay again, but they need to sort out some basics. The room felt very tired, and the carpet was so dirty it urgently needs cleaning or replacing. There was no mattress protector, which should be a must in any hotel. When I first went in, the room had a pungent smell, like stale urine, although it faded overnight. In the morning shower, a very large curly black hair appeared from the curtain.

For the price, this is a great deal. The staff were attentive and friendly, the rooms were really clean, and I’d absolutely stay again.
