The old Manchester Stock Exchange building is stunning inside and out. Staff were very professional, and there was even a complimentary glass of champagne on arrival, though the lobby is small and could feel cramped at busy check-in times. My standard double room was nice, if a little tired in places, with premium touches, a well-stocked minibar, excellent tea and coffee facilities, and a clean, very comfortable bed. The bathroom setup was the letdown for a hotel with a 5* rating. The shower wasn't in the bathroom, so there was nowhere to hang a towel. It felt strange for a luxury hotel. I enjoyed my stay and would come again, preferably in a room with the shower actually in the bathroom. The full video review is on my Youtube channel, @travel.stay.explore.
Breakfast was really good, with delicious choices beyond the usual British menu. The dining room decor and atmosphere were breathtaking. Our room was clean and well cared for, with Jo Malone toiletries. The beds and pillows were on the firm side but still very comfortable. A pillow menu would be a nice addition. The building is opulent and recently renovated, and the location is hard to beat, just a few minutes' walk from the main shopping areas. Driving there, Waze took us through narrow streets and 20mph zones right to the door. You do have to pull up on double yellows, but the team were on hand as soon as we arrived. Book parking ahead if you're coming by car. We had a perfect welcome, and the service team were efficient, friendly and attentive. Nothing seemed too much trouble. It's our first proper trip to Manchester, but we'll find more reasons to return. Well done to everyone involved.
The suites are very spacious, the staff are friendly, and the location is excellent. The limited dine-in selection is worth trying, though, because everything available was delicious. I do think the hotel should reconsider its food offering. It was also a bit more expensive than a comparable hotel in London.
We're staying at the Savoy as I write this, and even though it's exceptional, it still doesn't quite match the Stock Exchange. This is probably the best place we've ever stayed, and we stay everywhere. The food, rooms and location are all amazing, but the people and personal touch are what really make it.
The rooms and location are great, but it's the hospitality and service that really set this place apart. Everyone on staff is kind, helpful and funny. We always enjoy breakfast with Sid and Mario, and appreciate the glass of champagne Nigel gives us when we arrive.
