The historic building is beautiful, and my room was huge, with a hot bath and shower and a comfortable bed. I booked at the last minute for one night while walking the Pennine Way because of storm Dave, and the staff gave me a really friendly, helpful welcome. I had both dinner and breakfast at the inn, and enjoyed them both. The homemade crumble was the best I've tasted in years. Thanks to the staff who made the whole stay fantastic.

Stopped in with friends for a drink and got quick, friendly service in a pleasant setting. There’s decent seating outside by the car park, though that area could be made a bit softer and more inviting. We’ll be back.

The place is spotless, and the staff were friendly and smartly dressed. It's in a great spot close to everything. We shared a starter and it was beautiful; the food looked incredible, and there’s an offer on the specials board too. The rooms inside the pub/restaurant and out the back looked fabulous. Absolutely gorgeous place, very impressive. Highly recommend, and we’ll definitely be back.

Last year we had what was probably the best meal we've had in Hebden Bridge, with high-quality food and an interesting, chef-led menu. This time was a disappointment. It seems to have gone back to ordinary, fairly pricey pub food. It was cooked adequately, but lacked excitement, and the choices were limited if you didn't want steak. Maybe the town can't sustain higher-end dining, but I still left disappointed.

We were glad we'd booked for Monday lunch, as it was very busy. We were both pleased with the regular haddock and chips at £17 each. The fish was thick, white and beautiful, with some of the best we've had, and the batter was really crisp. The chips still had their skins, which we like, but were chewy rather than crispy, so they weren't for us. I had garden peas, my partner chose mushy peas, and we shared a tasty curry sauce for £2.50, though it was a little runny. We were too full for dessert. The pub is right in the centre of Hebden Bridge, but parking is limited.
