Wendover Arms

I found this place by chance one late evening in late Sept '25. The rooms have all been newly refurbished and are double glazed, so it was quiet even on a main road. Rooms were very reasonably priced. There’s no restaurant, which I already knew, but there’s a takeaway very close by. The small bar and lounge are perfectly fine for a short stay. I’ll stay again if I’m in the area.

I’d give it zero stars if I could. The reception smelled of weed, and people and staff were smoking. One staff member seemed drunk and high and was extremely rude. They also gave us a different room from the one shown in the picture we booked through booking.com. I honestly would not recommend staying there.

The hot water wasn’t working, and there was mould in the room corners and in the lobby. I’m really disappointed with both the room and the service. This is the worst hotel I’ve stayed in over the last three years, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

For £40, it does what you’d expect. The bed was clean and comfortable, there was tea and coffee in the room, the bedroom window opened, and parking was free. The hotel has a cheap feel, though, and the bedroom seemed only a little better than a halfway house. The morning receptionist didn’t seem to speak English.
