The back garden, with a little playground for children, could make this a handy stop on a journey along the busy road. But the Sunday roast was very average, nearly disappointing, and the price didn't match the food. My pork came without the crackling listed on the menu, and only after I asked did the waiter say there wasn't any that day. We had booked for 12:00, the restaurant was quiet, so it didn't seem like they'd run out after a busy service. The lunch was small: a couple of slices of pork, a few carrots, some greens, two potatoes, and what I think was diced parsnip with a little gravy. It felt like very little effort had gone into it. The cauliflower cheese was tasty, and the two portions made the meal satisfying. Ordering drinks was awkward too. The waitress didn't offer a drinks menu, so I had to ask for the wine list. I won't be rushing back.

A handy halfway stop for us on the way to Cornwall. We had breakfast today and it was perfect, and the coffee is really lovely too. The food's always very nice, the staff are friendly, and the prices are reasonable. We'll be back :)

Wednesday evening was moderately busy, and the service was attentive without hovering. The drinks were very good too. There was a mix of familiar pub dishes and a few surprises on the menu. We had the catch of the day, hake, and a veggie burger, and both were excellent. For dessert we tried Bakewell tart, treacle tart, and chocolate mousse. One person in our group is lactose intolerant, and the server suggested a delicious raspberry sorbet. Definitely worth a visit.

The whole place was immaculate, from the rooms to the bar and restaurants, and there was plenty of parking. It's pet friendly too. Our Saturday dinner was amazing, and breakfast the next morning was just as good, cooked perfectly. Every staff member, including the cleaners and room maids, was polite and made us feel welcome. Special thanks to the three or four young women who served us over the weekend, they're real gems. Owners, hold on to your staff! It was our first visit, but definitely won't be our last. This is one of the best hotels we've stayed at, at home or abroad. Thanks to everyone for being so kind. 11 out of 10 😊👌

Rory, the owner, went out of his way to make sure everyone had a great night, and we did. The bar staff and reception team were lovely too. I stayed here and used the function room for a work event, and it was a brilliant 10/10. The pub food is high quality, and that burger was exceptional, so calling it pub food almost does it a disservice. The pint was good as well. I'd highly recommend staying or stopping in for a drink. I've been back twice for a pint already, and I'll definitely return. I'm especially grateful to Rory for somehow finding my lost mobile phone 🙏🏽 What a top geezer.
