BEWARE if booking through TRIVAGO or AGODA. I was trying to book the Saracens head in Great Dunmow, Essex through Agoda, but the payment link led to this hotel, about four hours from where we needed to be. It happened again on other sites too, including late rooms. I called immediately, but the manager refused to cancel, saying it was booked through Agoda and they couldn't cancel it or mark the room unavailable. I couldn't reach anyone at Agoda either. Easy money. I made the booking four days before the stay, so there was plenty of time to cancel, and they knew what had happened.

We were spending our holiday in Highworth, and this was our first taste of English pub culture. We were absolutely thrilled by the friendly staff, the food, the garden and the atmosphere. Simply superb. We'll be back.

We had a lovely, relaxed few days away in this village. The pub served amazing beer and home-cooked food, both 10/10, and the manager and staff were great. The rooms were really good too, though they need some work to be perfect. It wasn't bad by any means. The location is ideal, with lots of places within an hour. We keep talking about coming back for the food and beer, and we'll return for a few days in future. Thanks for having us, see you again soon.

The smooth, really good Arkells 3B beer was a lovely part of lunch with my uncle. We were glad we stopped at the Saracens Head. There's a good menu with something for everyone, and I chose the chicken and ham pie with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables. It was nice to have a traditional, wholesome meal instead of fast food. The deep pie was packed with big chunks of chicken in a creamy sauce and topped with pastry, all cooked just right. AJ and his colleague were attentive and friendly. I recommend the place, and we'll return soon.
