The Lawns

There’s plenty of parking, and the rooms are well placed for the shops in central Holt. Our rooms were nice enough, though it was a surprise to find it was rooms only when we’d expected a hotel. There weren’t staff on site, just phone numbers to call if anything went wrong. Milk cartons in the room would have been handy, since the milk from the shared fridge in the main building curdled in the heat after a few hours. Breakfast meant walking up the road to The Feathers. That was fine in good weather, less appealing in a torrential downpour.

The rooms are much quieter because breakfast at the main pub and hotel around the corner is just a short walk away. It was amazing, too. The rooms feel luxurious for the price, with plenty of space and an actual bath in the bathroom. A few maintenance jobs could use the management’s attention before the rooms start to lose their quality.

We chose the Lawn Rooms for our mini-moon and stayed in a clean, fresh, spacious ground-floor double. The bathroom was large, with a lovely powerful shower in an old-fashioned style, but no bath. There was plenty of wardrobe space, tea, coffee and biscuits, plus a TV we could use with our Netflix account. We didn’t use the shared lounge, conservatory or outdoor benches. The bed was comfortable, and breakfast at The Feathers was very good. We also had a lovely dinner there one evening, though the restaurant was very warm even with doors and windows open. We parked behind the building, then walked about three minutes down the road to The Feathers for check-in, dinner and breakfast. The walk was fine for us, and welcome after eating, though it could be inconvenient for someone less mobile or anyone who hadn’t known about it. The room was very warm during the heat wave. A floor-standing tower fan was provided, but didn’t help much with the bed set quite high. We didn’t feel safe leaving the ground-level sash windows open overnight. I might avoid staying here in a heat wave, or if I wanted to be right inside a pub, but I’d consider returning in cooler weather.

We had two lovely nights in a garden room and only wished we could have stayed longer. It was roomy, clean and comfortable, with a lovely shower room and fluffy towels. They topped up the tea, coffee, biscuits and bottled water each day. The staff were kind, friendly and helpful, and breakfast was really good. 👌
