The Heathfield Inn

I came in just before 7 p.m. on Wednesday and wasn’t too impressed by the menu, but chose the 8 Oz rump steak. I should probably have left then, but we’d already ordered drinks, and I ended up settling for scampi. When my wine arrived, it was Shiraz instead of the Zinfandel I’d asked for. There was no manager available to hear my complaint. I won’t be going back.

We’ve been locals at the pub for three years and have always felt very welcome. We held our christening party there, with a buffet from the pub. There was lots of choice to suit everyone’s needs, and the food was excellent value for money. David and his hard-working team always go above and beyond for their customers. I’d highly recommend it. 10/10 from me. Thank you, Lewis.

A quiet spot in a residential area, conveniently close to Honiton town centre. The food was tasty, beautifully presented and brought out efficiently. Service was well organised, polite and attentive without getting in the way. A pleasant experience, and I’ll come again. Thank you.

The server was lovely and clearly embarrassed, but the kitchen’s handling of our order was really frustrating. We ordered three chicken and chorizo burgers, but they’d run out of chorizo and sent the plates out without telling us. When we raised it, we waited 10 minutes to hear that the chef knew and had left it off without telling anyone. Another 10 minutes passed before three bits of bacon came as a replacement, by which time everyone had finished. If they’d told us about the missing ingredient, we’d have ordered something else. Instead we were left with three very dry grilled chicken sandwiches. I’ve never known a place leave out a key ingredient and just hope nobody notices.
