Katherine, who runs the lodge, is really nice and deserves a lot of respect for the service she provides. My wife and I were impressed with the facilities and how quaint, comfortable, and well done the room and bathroom were. We’d stayed at a high-end Hilton in London over the weekend during our trip, but I couldn’t wait to get back to the comfortable, QUIET bed at cherry lodge. I’m staying here to visit Matt Goddard of The Boxing Locker. Don’t let your first impression online put you off.

The en-suites are a bit old, and the shower was cold once, though it was hot every other time. I can’t say anything about the TV or DVDs because I don’t use them. Of the B&Bs I’ve tried nearby, only Oaklea was better, and that costs 50% more. I’ve stayed at several in Hook, but Cherry Lodge is the one I now use whenever I’m in the area. The hostess is always friendly, the rooms are clean and cheap, and there’s usually a room available without booking weeks ahead. You get a twin room for the price of a single, and breakfast is good, with a full English, cereal, toast, and yogurt.

We arrive late and leave early, so being able to help ourselves to breakfast in the kitchen worked perfectly for us. The room was spotless and had all the basics covered. The only odd part was having to leave your key in the hall when you go out.

The rooms were spacious and the facilities were good, in a nice location. The only downside was the amount of noise from road traffic and other guests.
