The rooms were cosy and toasty after a long day out, and the hot shower had great pressure. We also liked the rooms being named after local trails. The whole place was spotless, and the staff were welcoming, courteous, and friendly from the moment we arrived. Food was a highlight. I had steak and ale pie with chunky chips and vegetables for dinner, while my partner chose haddock and chips. Breakfast was just as good, with a traditional English breakfast, a great Cumberland sausage, eggs cooked perfectly, and lovely Eggs Benedict. We had a fantastic stay at The Rambler Inn. Highly recommended.

After a big hike, the tasty food really hit the spot, and the service and location were great. It was quite expensive, though. I paid about £18 for a Sunday dinner I’d rate 6.5/10. I wouldn’t make a special trip to eat here again, but I’ll probably end up back since it’s perfectly fine.

We arrived during the busy peak, with the bar queue reaching the front door, but it moved quickly and we ordered food for three. Some choices had sold out. What we got was fine, pretty average pub-chain food, and came fairly quickly given how packed it was. The beer was great and cold. The menus were so grimy they need a good clean or replacing.

The vegetables were fresh and beautifully done, and that sweet red cabbage was a real treat. I had a wonderful Sunday roast, with beef that was perfectly tender and pink.

We’d booked the room over six months ahead for a wedding in the village, but on arrival were told the system had cancelled our reservation because we hadn’t paid a deposit. We’d never been asked for one, and no one had notified us. The staff were left with a nightmare on their hands, with very unhappy guests at the bar and no room available. They were absolutely brilliant at sorting out the situation, and couldn’t have been more helpful or polite.
