The Little John Hotel

The location was handy, there was free parking, the Wi-Fi worked well, and the customer service was good. I also liked the bar with its real fire. The room was lovely and warm, with nice decor, a firm mattress, and a beautiful shower room with a heated towel rail. I stayed for one night before Christmas. There were a couple of issues, which I’ll email the hotel about, but it’s a nice place in a great spot.

Our room was clean, with a comfortable bed and a big walk-in shower, and we had a good stay. The dining room was being worked on, so they gave us breakfast vouchers for The Bank House just up the road. The food there was very nice. They also gave us two £10 meal vouchers for The Gift House and Vinners to make up for the disruption. That was more than they needed to do, and we really appreciated it. The man who showed us to our room stayed up extra late for us and was very kind. I’d recommend this cute little hotel.

The room was called the Dungeon, but it was bright and airy, and the bathroom had the best shower ever. They even provide this coffee in the rooms. I stayed at the Little John while doing the Steel Cotton trail, and it was warm and comfortable, with friendly staff who were happy to help. It’s well placed in Hathersage, with fantastic walks right nearby. 10/10.

We arrived at 3:30 on a busy Saturday for a late lunch and ordered two fish and chips, beef lasagne, the lamb and mint pie of the week, and some bar snacks. The pie tasted good, but the lasagne and snacks came in portions that were too small. Both fish portions were overcooked and tasted burnt, so we sent them back. One replacement was undercooked, and we had to return it too. By then the manager, whose name I don’t know, offered to replace the fish and chips with other meals, but it was too late for us, so we got a refund. The menu says the chips are triple cooked, but ours didn’t seem to be, and the frying oil tasted old.
