The Corner House Hotel Gatwick

Being able to check in from midday was a bonus, and the WiFi was fast. Horley train station is only a 10-minute walk away, one stop from Gatwick Airport. The shuttle to Gatwick is a must, far cheaper than a taxi, and they’ll take you to whichever terminal you choose. Staff were friendly, the price was good, and breakfast was nice. I didn’t fancy a full English, so I ordered mushrooms and egg on toast off menu, and it arrived in three minutes. I’ll use it again.

The room was cozy and tidy, and the location is ideal for the airport. The shuttle is also very affordable. The one letdown was the food. I ordered calamari expecting something homemade, as advertised, but it was frozen and easily the worst calamari I’ve had. I told the server, but they didn’t really acknowledge it. Since I left it uneaten, I expected not to be charged. If homemade meals are advertised, I’d advise against using frozen food. Aside from that, a really lovely place.

The room was really noisy, with traffic outside and the boiler constantly switching on and off. Guests upstairs were talking loudly from midnight onwards. The fish and chips cost £20.92 and tasted microwaved. Avoid if you need sleep before an early flight.

If you’re hoping to sleep, avoid this hotel. Guests were coming and going noisily all night, and the annexe is in a separate building across the road from the hotel. Its door kept slamming, and people dragged their cases up and down the stairs. I came for an early flight, but I’d have slept better at home and wish I’d saved the money and driven early instead.
